@LauraS: Exactely, it's a "mara"; a "Patagonian mara". The french term say "Lapin de Patagonie", so "lapin" could be translate by "rabbit".
Which what I read in Wikipedia, it's more like a guinea pig (a very very big guinea pig so !!! ;-) ).
Don't know more of it... but it's a really lovely animal ^^
